Thesis Title: Realism between metaphysics and science

Thomas Ryckman
Alexis Burgess

About

I work on issues at the intersection of metaphysics and science, and on questions regarding the relationship between metaphysics and science.

In my dissertation I looked at forms of realism about science and their relationship to metaphysics, especially at structural realism. Since then I've started to work on questions about causation and what I see as a conflict between the mereological and the modal structure of the world.

I also have a side interest in Aristotle as well as German philosophy of all centuries.

I recently finished my PhD at Stanford, spent a year at the University of Michigan, and I'm currently a visiting assistant professor at the University of Puget Sound. In August I will be joining Hong Kong University as an assistant professor.
